Iran Politics Club: Iranian Top Models

Nazanin Afshin-Jam is an Iranian Canadian model, actress, musician, singer, songwriter and human rights activist. Nazanin was born in Tehran, Iran. In 1979 (Islamic reactionary occupation of Iran), her father had been incarcerated and tortured by the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards) and had scheduled for execution as a political prisoner. The family were faced with no other choice but to escape Iran. Nazanin and her family were forced to leave their home and all their earthly possessions in Iran and leave for the freedom. They escaped to Europe. On 1981, Nazanin and her family had migrated to Canada. Since the early ages, Nazanin would escape to the music to soothen her wounded soul. As a teen, Nazanin educated herself about the global and political issues. She is a former Miss Canada (2003) and 1st runner up Miss World. Nazanin has a degree in International Relations and political science from the University of British Columbia. She also had studies at the L'Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Paris, France) and the International Study Center at Herstmonceux Castle (England, UK). As a student, she supported herself by modeling and acting. She also had worked as a youth educator with the Red Cross, teaching various subjects such as Children affected by War, the Poverty-Disease Cycle and the Natural Disasters. Nazanin was also a “first warrant officer” rank with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. She is a skilled pilot, flying aircraft and gliders. Nazanin is politically active and had conducted campaigns to seize child executions in Iran. She is a women’s rights activist. On 2007, she had released a meaningful pop fusion music album (Someday). This album is all about love, humanity and hope. Hits such as “Someday” and “I Dance 4 U” are included in this album. As a humanitarian and a political activist, Nazanin had helped the victims of the tsunami in India and Sri Lanka. She had raised funds for the earthquake victims of Bam, Kerman in Iran. She aided the patients in Ethiopia, humanitarian causes in China, and campaigned for the Middle Eastern women's rights. For her efforts to save a young Iranian girl (Nazanin Fatehi) from execution (for defending herself against rape) and bringing the global attention to this humanitarian cause, she had received the "Hero for Human Rights" Award from the Artists for Human Rights / Youth for Human Rights International at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Her hobbies are flying planes, sailing, public speaking, reading, dancing and political activism. Nazanin has been receiving various hate mails from the Islamic fundamentalists and also supporting love mails from the Iranian youth. Nazanin is a positive role model for the Iranian young ladies. IPC supports Nazanin Afshin-Jam as a progressive and a proud Persian woman.
